Rathtrevor Beach – Warmth on Vancouver Island

Rathtrevor Beach – Warmth on Vancouver Island

After an early morning pack up, we head back across the island from Tofino to Parksville and Rathtrevor Beach.  Yet again, we experience a magnificient drive through the mountains and lakes to get through to the east side of the island.

We arrived in Parksville early afternoon and make our way to our site at Rathtrevor Beach. We have a shared site 90 and 91 with our cousins and it’s a giant… and I mean giant site!

Photo doesn’t show that the site is about 4 times what is visible

While we set up, the kids head to what else!?… the playground!? And what a playground it is.  Located right across from our site, the playground is modern, new, with a base of wood chips. Perfect!. Lots of room to play, lots of shade from the majestic trees that surround the playground. And to top it all off, the bathroom is just across the way!  The huge plus was the Pump Track and Trail. It’s a pint sized bike trail specifically designed for children with mini hills and valleys for the kids to ride over.

Once setup was complete and the kids had spent enough time at the playground, we headed for the tidal pool beach. We arrived as low tide was still out so there was lots of tidal pools out for the kids to expore.

The long walk to find water
Even with the campground at full capacity, we don’t have trouble finding our own space at the beach.
hermit crabs abound….
Look I found another crab!
Sand dollar discovery

After a few hours of tidal pool fun we head back to camp for dinner and what else a campfire.. but this one was a first…. Since there was a campfire ban on, the campground rented out propane fire pits.  For $20 for 2 nights, we were able to hook up the pit to our propane tank and ta dahhhhh we have fire. Not quite a perfect campfire but since we had a beautiful fire the night before on Mackenzie Beach , it was the next best thing.

The next morning we do it all over again, playground and tidal pool fun!…

Playground fun….
Discovery never stops
