A slight break from Canada150 fun

A slight break from Canada150 fun

So, it’s taken me quite a long time to get all the Canada 150 posts out there…. and life has a habit of getting in the way….. Seeing as this fall and winter have flown by with lots of fun events, I thought I’d try to atleast keep up with our current life.

so here goes…

Christmas 2017

It’s sort of winter… a few weeks here and there of a winter before the holidays! It was a beautiful white Christmas 2017.

Our backyard ice rink was put together by the family in early December 2017.

early days of the ice rink preparation
completed rink instalation
Fully installed rink… just need water and cold temps

We followed this with many, many, many nights of ‘watering’ the rink and making sure it was ready. The rink got tested out with an impromptu neighbour party in mid December

Nothing like getting outside!

and got it’s annual use at our Christmas party. Beautiful giant white fluffy flakes fell through the evening of Christmas Eve, enough that we had an impromptu snowball fight on the rink!

Finally ice conditions allow skating!

The snowball fight was followed with more skating and you couldn’t have asked for a more picture perfect Christmas Eve scene.

Winter 2018

Then after the holidays…. quite mild!.. our poor rink turned into a pool. But we’re making the most of winter! Kids are enrolled in snowboarding classes at Snow Valley and are loving it!

Determined to be independent
Hitting the slopes early.

It forces us all out of bed in the wee hours Sunday morning and up onto the slopes. An hour roughly door to door and we’re ready to tackle the slopes! It’s the second year for the older one and the first at snowboarding for the ‘littler’ one.

Seeing as I’m out of commission for the next little while … it’s not a bad escape for me either

Both the kiddos are also into hockey school this year. Great to see them having fun and enjoying being out there somewhere cold.
We’ve hit a few outdoor rinks as well … often, sidetracked by the simple things in life like…. an abandoned snowfort next to the arena…
When life surprises you and a pile of snow next to the parking lot is actually a snow fort.
